These last two events have been a crazy start to the 2018 MarbleLympics! We have seen sixteen elite teams of marbles compete in two events, the 5m Ice Dash and the Ski Jump. Some earlier predictions have held true, while others have been surprisingly wrong! Let’s analyze the current standings (after two events).
First place with 40 points are the Hazers. A rookie team this year, they have proven to everyone in both the qualifiers and the actual MarbleLympics that they’re here to compete! They already have a strong lead over the other teams, after placing second in both events so far. They are most certainly the strongest new team, as well as one of the strongest teams at this point in the games. Things could certainly change, but the likelihood of the Hazers having several poor finishes in the next few events seems very low.
Second place with 36 points are the Balls of Chaos. The Balls of Chaos are most certainly staying true to their name this year, as they are showing yet another strong performance in the MarbleLympics. They placed in the top five teams for both of the events they’ve competed in. However, it is a little early to tell whether or not they will continue to have high placements, or if this past victory in Ski Jump was entirely luck.
Third place with 29 points are the Oceanics. The Oceanics are definitely doing as well as predicted, if not a bit better. They finished in the top three teams for both of their events, which sounds like a very solid average to me. I really have a good feelings about them this year, if they can keep up these fantastic finishes. Again, it is still very early in the games; anything can happen to any of the teams.
Fourth place with 22 points are the O’rangers. The O’rangers are a fan favorite, but they really aren’t living up to their history in the MarbleLympics. They were able to pull off a win last year, but this year it isn’t looking like they’ll even have a top three finish. Yes, they are in fourth currently, but they haven’t had any outstanding performances yet. In addition, they are almost 20 points behind the winning team, which is a lot of points to be behind a team this early in the games. I hope they prove me absolutely wrong, but I can’t say I have a lot of faith in the O’rangers this year.
Fifth place with 20 points are the Crazy Cat’s Eyes. Another rookie team, the Crazy Cat’s Eyes are shocking every single person watching the MarbleLympics. It was assumed they would have to fight to stay out of last place, but they are proving that they deserve to be here. Now, I can’t say that they’ve been consistently good or that I have a ton of faith they can keep up this placement, but it’ll be interesting to see if they will rise to the occasion.
Sixth place with 19 points are the Snowballs. The Snowballs had the advantage this year as they are the hosts of the MarbleLympics. However, we have seen much better performances from them in the past. This is definitely not typical of the Snowballs and if they want to even maintain their current position, they’ll have to put in a lot of work.
Seventh place with 18 points are the Pinkies. I don’t really have much to say about the Pinkies if I’m being completely honest. They’re not standing out as a team that can win this year’s games. Of course they’re not doing horrific, but this isn’t necessarily a placement they should be proud of. I hope to see their comeback in the next few rounds.
Eighth place with 17 points are the Mellow Yellow. I am very disappointed in the Mellow Yellow this year, with a very poor excuse of a performance compared to previous years. They were expected to be a frontrunner, and now they’re fighting to end in the top half of the teams. If they want to even dream of a top five position, they need to start winning competitions left and right. It’s not looking good for them, though.
Ninth place with 15 points are the Savage Speeders. Like the Mellow Yellow, the Savage Speeders are ruining their good reputation with these MarbleLympics. I have no clue what happened to the team that won the 2016 MarbleLympics. They really need to step it up for their fans, and most importantly for themselves. Their best hope right now is to place in the top five, but they have a long way to go.
Tenth place with 12 points are the Thunderbolts. The Thunderbolts just can’t seem to get their groove together after all these years. The most optimistic thing I can say about them is that maybe their second event placement of fifth will be more characteristic of their future performances in the MarbleLympics. If they can just forget their fifteenth placement in the 5m Ice Dash, I see them having a chance at redemption.
Eleventh place with 10 points are the Midnight Wisps. The Midnight Wisps are striking me as very similar to the Thunderbolts, neither team really being able to show they they deserve to be a team in the top half of the standings. They have a lot of work ahead of them if they want to prove me wrong.
Twelfth place with 9 points are the Minty Maniacs and Team Galactic. Neither team really has a shot at top five teams unless they can miraculously pull themselves together. They are both just fighting to stay out of last place at this point.
Fourteenth place with 8 points are the Raspberry Racers. The Raspberry Racers are a rookie team this year and it most certainly shows. They had a strong showing in the qualifiers but that went right out the door in these first two events. They let the pressure get to them 100% and I won’t be surprised if they end up as our last place finishers for the whole MarbleLympics.
Fifteenth place with 7 points are the Limers. The Limers have a huge fan-base, all of which are most definitely disappointed with their current standing. They were expected to be a frontrunner in the MarbleLympics, not a fifteenth place team! I have no hope for their recovery in these games, unfortunately.
Sixteen place with 6 points are Team Momo. Team Momo was not expected to do very well this MarbleLympics, but they weren’t expected to do this horrible. This is not what we wanted to see from this veteran team. Their fans need to hope that next year’s MarbleLympics goes better, because it’s not looking promising this year.
These are my opinions on the teams, do you disagree? Let me know respectfully in the comments! I’d love to hear different opinions! Again, it’s still very early in the games so we’ll see if things change.
