Introduced as Team Galaxy in the 2016 MarbleLympics, Team Galactic has always been out there in the marblebase. Consisting of marblenauts Cosmo, Starry, Astron, and Pulsar, the team never seems to get the same amount of coverage as, say, the Savage Speeders or O’rangers, but little negative coverage has been directed towards the team as well. These silver marbles, with brown and white ribbons, shine when they come onstage regardless of how they do, and their marblebase is dedicated to them even when they do not perform well. In the first event, Team Galaxy scored tenth, and in the second event, the newly renamed Team Galactic scored eighth due to the defect in the top track of the course.
The reason the team was renamed lies in the infamous brand, Galaxy Toothpaste. As quoted from the Team Galactic wiki page: “…after gaining popularity it got almost sued by the brand "Galaxy™". After intense negotiations the team ultimately changed its name to "Team Galactic", as still known today….A fair amount of followers assumed, wrongly, that the team is being sponsored by the brand and has accepted a partnership. Because of that many supporters bought all kinds of products of the Galaxy(tm) brand but most of all the "Galaxy Toothpaste"(tm).”
Of course, the current team name is exactly the same as the Team Galactic featured in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. Thankfully, GAME FREAK has not sued the IMC in regards to this.
Team Galactic scored their first medal in the fourth event, with Starry getting bronze in the Sand Rally. This put the team at a respectable seventh place overall. Team Galactic continued to place in the top ten throughout most of the following events, getting fourth in the High Jump, notably. However, the team finished in eleventh place overall at the conclusion of the 2016 MarbleLympics, tied with the Oceanics in points but behind the team in medal count. Team Galactic was disappointed, but ready to do better in the 2017 MarbleLympics Qualifiers.
And better they did. Team Galactic truly blasted off in the Qualifiers, taking a bronze medal during the Funnel Spinning and placing high consistently to rank bronze for qualification overall. The sky no longer seemed to be the limit for what Team Galactic could achieve, and the team was ecstatic to participate in the 2017 MarbleLympics. Astro noted,
“We’re really happy with how things have gone, you know, with restructuring and training. We feel like we’ve made a lot of small steps for our marbles, and we’re ready to prove that we’re making a giant leap towards marblekind when we compete this season.”
You can imagine, then, that Team Galactic was shocked when they scored dead last in the first event and fifteenth in the second event, which, of course, landed them in last place overall. The team was quite discouraged, but they trusted that their season was far from out of their control. In the third event, Team Galactic finally put eight more points on the board, jumping up to eighth place, and in the fifth event, they got a much-desired gold medal with Starry’s performance in Hurdles. Team Galactic was now in eleventh overall. When asked, Starry could barely speak, he was so excited:
“I don’t know…I’m just starstruck right now.”
Over the coming events, Team Galactic notably scored fourth in the seventh event and got another gold in the last event, the Sand Race. Due to placing in the top half of most events, Team Galactic actually got fifth place overall, but it was not enough to qualify. Still, placing in the top five made many fans gravitate towards the team and attracted excitement towards their appearance in the 2018 Winter MarbleLympics Qualifiers.
Team Galactic placed into Group A and started off very strong during the 2018 Qualifiers, getting a silver in Curling, a gold in the Snow Rally, and a silver in the five meter ice dash. Team Galactic scored last in the Halfpipe qualifier, but they had already qualified in third for the 2018 Winter MarbleLympics.
Just before the 2018 season began, Team Galactic got a revamped, simplified logo due to requests, as the old logo looked like it was from the 1970’s. The new logo, featured at the top of this article, has been nominated for the Best Team Logo award by the MSPN Editor’s Choice. The awards post will be coming soon.
During the regular season, Team Galactic has scored consistently in the lower-middle of the competition, save for their silver medal in event four, Bobsleigh. In events seven, eight, and nine, the team placed in the top half of the competition, but the team is currently in eleventh place, one point behind Team Momary. In RetRollSpective, though, Team Galactic has come a long way since its inception in the 2016 MarbleLympics. The team has done extremely well in Qualifying events, proving that the team has astronomical potential despite its few medals. All the best to these marblenauts as the 2018 Winter MarbleLympics come to a close, keep on rolling!
