The Marblelympics start with the Opening Ceremony on Friday February 9th at 5:00 PM EST. Along with the Opening Ceremony comes the first event as well. The 5 meter Ice Dash will be the first event for the Marblelympics and it is an event that we’ve seen in the qualifying games. Analysis of the individual games will come from me after the first event, after the marbles and their abilities are seen. However, I do plan on separating the teams into 3 tiers. As much as Crazy Cat’s Eyes fans would like to think, not all marbles or teams are created equal.
Tier 1: Teams that have a good shot at winning it all
Savage Speeders, O’rangers, Snowballs, Balls of Chaos, Mellow Yellow
All of these teams have a good shot at winning the Marblelympics. These teams have either been there before or have had good showings in the past. As for the Snowballs, they capture their edge by hosting the games. You can’t quantify how much that will help the Snowballs, but it may be a huge edge. As for the Savage Speeders and the O’rangers, both of those teams have fought for the top spot last year and will most likely do so again. It would be no shock to me for both of these teams to finish 1st and 2nd. As for the Balls of Chaos, they are a newer team who came out strong and was able to finish at the top of the qualifying ranks. They looked fast in the qualifiers and after those five events, showed enough consistency to show why they are a top team. Although it’ll be tough for them to pull off a win, a top half finish will be likely. As for Mellow Yellow they are another team that has star potential. Their ability to hang around late until the games gives them a good shot at a top 5 finish. With that being said, I could also see Mellow Yellow falling out of the top half. A good start for them would go a long way.
Tier 2: Teams looking for a top 5 finish
The Hazers, Raspberry Racers, Limers, Team Galactic, Oceanics, Pinkies
The Wild West, the Cinderellas, the Fireworks, these are the teams that are the great unknown. Although these teams may not necessarily have a Marblelympics winner in their group, these teams play an even bigger role as the spoilers. It would be an upset to see one of these teams win it all, but it wouldn’t be impossible. The Hazers and Raspberry Racers are both new teams that had a strong showing out of the gate, but the nerves might reach these teams under the bright lights which could make them falter at any point. These are two young teams, so experience might be an issue as they get deeper into the event schedule. These teams are new and they could be a fluke or they could be the real deal. Either of these teams should be content with a top half finish however. As for the remaining 4 teams, they are all veterans and should be able to use this to their advantage. Age isn’t of concern as these marbles can generally stay spry for a long time so all these teams should be able to put forth a good showing. With that being said, any one of the Limers, Team Galactic, Oceanics, or Pinkies could fall to the end of the pack as these teams are not very dominant. These teams should focus on using their age to their advantage and it wouldn’t be a big surprise if 2 out of the 4 older teams crack the top five along with either the Hazers or the Raspberry Racers. These teams might not be an enormous threat to win it all, but any one of them could spoil others chances.
Tier 3: Teams looking for a top half finish
Thunderbolts, Crazy Cat’s Eyes, Minty Maniacs, Midnight Wisps, Team Momo
The sad truth of the Marblelympics is that not all teams are created equal thus not all teams have different goals and standards. While every single marble grows up dreaming about competing at the Marblelympics, the reality is that in life and in the Marblelympics not everything is equal. By no means are any of the above teams bad, they have all advanced through qualifying and prove they deserve to be at the Marblelympics. For fans of these teams however, their sites should be set lower. Thunderbolts, Midnight Wisps, and Team Momo are all veteran teams, yet none of them are able to bring the fire we have seen from them in their past appearances. Maybe the ice and the cold is a hindrance to their fire which is setting them back. For Team Momo one of the causes will be the injury from Momomomo. Momomomo had a devastating injury in the Fidget Spinner event in the previous Marblelympics, and ever since the team just hasn’t been able to put all the pieces back together. I do believe that one of those 4 teams will somehow find a way to crack the top half and if lucky get into the top five. As for Crazy Cat’s Eyes and Minty Maniacs, I feel these two teams will be in a battle to avoid last place. These teams are new and undisciplined and with all the new skill events introduced, I think it will be hard for these young teams to have much success in this Marblelympics. Hopefully they just come out and have fun.
The Marblelympics should be a good one this year folks. The marbles are getting ready and the games are about to begin. Let’s hope all of the marbles are able to take it all in and be safe. More Marblelympics updates and predictions to come from me as the games progress. I hope to write an analysis of most events as well as to release weekly power rankings of the teams. Stay Marbly!
P.S. Am I crazy for writing a 1,000 word article about marbles? Yes
